Abstract

A modified measure of voice onset time (VOT) and voice termination time (VTT) was obtained from four groups: 12 children with normal fluency, 12 children who exhibited stuttering, 12 adults with normal fluency, and 12 adults with the problem of stuttering. The modified measure of VOT and VTT employed simultaneous patterns of intraoral air pressure and wide-band analysis of spectrograms. The mean age of the children was 6.5 years and of the children was 6.5 years and of the adults 28.6 years. Statistical results yielded significant VOT and VTT differences between children and adults. Children with stuttering exhibited longer VCT than their counterparts. Adult stutterers lagged in VOT and were statistically slower in VTT than their adult counterparts.
