Abstract

Beautiful, authoritative, accurate, pioneering, timeless—these are the elements that raise Vogt's epic treatise on slitlamp biomicroscopy to the level of a classic. On the 70th anniversary of its invention by ophthalmology's sole Nobel Laureate, Allvar Gullstrand of Sweden, we are treated to the English edition of the volume dealing with lens and zonule that was published a half century ago. The original German edition has long been out of print and generally unavailable. It was a marvel in its time, and it remains a wonder today. This volume is neither a facsimile nor a reprint, but rather a newly minted edition using the original plates and a direct, unembellished translation—except for one corrective sentence by Blodi on page 101.
