Abstract

Vocal Tract modelling plays an important role in acoustic phonetics that gives a speech language therapist (SLP) information about the shape of the vocal tract. Vocal tract transfer function estimation gives important insights in diagnosing voice disorders. This paper presents a survey of vocal tract modelling methods employed in literature. Vocal tract parameter estimation using Vagmi and Praat are detailed in this paper, followed by an investigation into a method to measure the resonance of the vocal tract using frequency sweeps at the lips of the human subject. The design and implementation of the vocal tract resonance measurement device has been tested and has potential for application in diagnosis of voice disorders.
