Abstract

Biology is overloaded with technical terms. More than 1500 terms are used in one introductory text. However, for the beginner, many of these terms are unnecessary and should be discarded. In this paper an attempt is made to recognize the misleading, obsolete, and otherwise unnecessary terms that are in common use, even in syllabuses and examination papers. Lists are also included of the terms that teachers are likely to need for introductory courses.
