Abstract

Based on constructivism theory, 5E model is applied in teaching, particularly in elementary school teaching, to not only help students acquire new knowledge but also promote their critical thinking, creativity, and ability to discover and solve problems and create knowledge for children. Learning with the 5E model, learners' knowledge is actively constructed by the cognitive subject instead of being passively received from the outside, thus gradually forming and developing in them the ability to detect problems, find ways to solve problems as well as apply existing knowledge and skills to find new ways of action and knowledge. Based on the analysis and synthesis of related research, the article focuses on summarizing the concepts of the 5E model, indicators of problem-solving capacity of elementary school students, and describing the process of organizing teaching to develop problem-solving capacity according to the 5E model in elementary school teaching with specific illustrative examples. The study conducted a pedagogical experiment in teaching according to the 5E model on 67 students of 2 classes 4A1 and 4A2 at Sai Dong Urban Primary School, Hanoi; analyzed both quantitative and qualitative results of pedagogical experiments to see the effectiveness of applying the 5E model in the process of teaching Grade 4 Science to develop problem-solving capacity for students.
