Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected all aspects of people’s lives, with the global community facing threats unprecedented in this century. To tackle the challenge posed by the pandemic, nations have turned to the results of previous fundamental research. The Russian healthcare system and manufacturers have worked in close cooperation to develop new vaccines in the shortest time possible. The pandemic is still continuing, and so are the extensive efforts to fight it. However, the medical and pharmaceutical community has had enough time to draw certain conclusions and learn important lessons that may come useful in dealing with the current and future epidemics. We have discussed these and other COVID-19-related questions with Vladimir Chulanov, Chief Freelance Specialist of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Chair of Infectious Diseases of the Sechenov University, Deputy Director for Science and Innovations of the National Medical Research Center of Tuberculosis and Infectious Diseases.
