Abstract

The 2(11)-2(12) H2CO K-doublet emission source in the Rho Ophiuchi B cloud core has been observed with an angular resolution of 10 arcsec. The core contains 1-4 solar masses of dense molecular gas within a region 0.05 x 0.02 pc in spatial extent. Maps with spectral resolution of 0.25 km/s exhibit structure on size scales approximately the same as the Jeans length, approximately 0.01 pc. Systematic variations in the positions of the peak line intensities with velocity suggest that the core may be comprised of at least two small rotating fragments. These fragments contain masses typical of low-mass stars and have densities and linear sizes expected of protostars.
