Abstract

We present total intensity radio images of a collection of 48 radio galaxies and quasars, drawn from a combined sample of the 3CR catalogue and the overlapping 6C and B2 catalogues. The 6C and B2 samples are selected at a flux density level at which the differential source counts exceed by the greatest amount the counts predicted for a non-evolving Friedmann cosmology. The new observations presented here complete a set of high-quality radio data for these samples: in conjunction with new optical/infrared data they should provide new insight into the cosmological evolution of this source population. The sources were observed with the VLA, at one or more of the following frequencies: 1.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 8.4 GHz. Basic source parameters are derived from each image. Images of individual sources are briefly discussed. The sources are classified morphologically according to their degree of core dominance R. The distributions of morphologies for 3CR and `6C/B2' sources are compared and discussed.
