Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate a new synthetic degradable Guided Bone Regeneration membrane (Vivosorb, poly(dl lactide-e-caprolactone), PDLLCL), a collagen membrane (BioGide) and an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (ePTFE, Gore-Tex) for bone formation in rat mandibular defects, and to compare it to a blank control. Methods: In 192 rats (Sprague–Dawley, male, weight 350g) a standardised 5.0mm circular defect was created in the right mandibular angle. New bone formation could be evaluated in 118 samples by post-mortem micro-CT imaging.
