Abstract

We have read with great interest the article titled ‘Vitreous Wiping, a new technique for removal of vitreous cortex remnants during vitrectomy’ by (Van Overdam et al. 2018). As mentioned by the authors, vitreoschisis is very common in high myopes and is a common cause for recurrent detachments. We appreciate the innovative technique mentioned and would like to add a few modifications to make it more accessible. The modifications which we have made, include: However, the Merocel has to be hydrated prior to passing it via the trocar cannula system so as to prevent blockage within the cannula. Once the Merocel has been used to wipe the vitreous cortex remnants, it can be removed with the help of the cutter [Megatron S4 vitrectomy system (Geuder, Hertzstr, Germany)] (Fig. 1), thus providing self-sealing wounds with 23 G system (Video S1).
