Abstract
Retinal detachment is a common ocular disease and one of its main treatment is vitreous surgery followed by injection of proper vitreous substitute, such as air and silicone oil. A good vitreous substitute makes great contribution to the reattachment of retina and reduction of complications while there is no satisfactory vitreous substitute at the moment. Therefore, many researches have been conducted trying to find a perfect substitute after vitrectomy. Hereby, we reviewed the vitreous substitute and their features which have been put to clinical use, as well as those still in research, such as hydrogel and Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body(FCVB). Key words: Vitreous substitute; Vitreous surgery; Silicone oil; Hydrogel
