Abstract

Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) are common hormone-dependent benign tumors in the uterus. Surgery is the main effective treatment option for uterine fibroids at the moment. We have recently reported that vitamin D3 inhibits fibroid cell proliferation in vitro and in appropriate animal models. We and others have recently found that Med12 gene somatic mutations are associated with the activation of WNT (Wingless-type MMTV integration site family)/β-catenin pathway. However, it is not clear whether vitamin D3 can potentially regulates gene expressions associated with WNT pathway.
