Abstract

Rationale: Malnutrition is a common feature of CD includes deficiencies in macronutrients, as well as micronutrients. Vitamin D deficiency appears to be the most common deficiency which predisposes to metabolic bone disease (MBD) including osteopenia, osteoporosis, and fractures. Despite the high prevalence of low vitamin D status, patients often are not evaluated by their physicians for bone health (bone densitometry) or 25(OH) D levels.
