Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects ∼10% of reproductive-aged women. There is an abnormal increase in serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in PCOS, which has been suggested to play a role in the pathophysiology of this syndrome and its closely related ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Women with PCOS have higher incidence of vitamin D (VD) deficiency, and VD supplementation has been shown to improve multiple clinical parameters of PCOS. VD decreases VEGF levels in several diseases such as preeclampsia, endometriosis, and diabetic retinopathy.
