Abstract

The plastic flow of ultrasonic welding joints is a significant factor in getting high bonding strength joints. In this paper, a method of adding a kind of material different from the base metal as interlayers are used to reveal the plastic flow of materials at the interface. The results indicate that this method can clearly show the plastic flow in joints with different parameters. It is found that swirl zones appear in the joints with higher parameters. Fine equiaxed grains appear in the zone with large deformation. And it is observed that the grains in the joint have an obvious orientation by EBSD maps. Two models of interfacial plastic flow were proposed according to the microstructural and grain orientation observation of joints under different parameters.
