Abstract

We present a three-dimensional (3-D) ALEGRA-MHD simulation of a kinked wire magneto-solid mechanics validation experiment performed at Army Research Laboratory. A 3-mm diameter copper wire with a 60/spl deg/ (equilateral) kink was subjected to a 400-kA prescribed current pulse. Magnetic quantities have been visualized in order to understand the 3-D nature of the resulting wire disruption.
