Abstract

In this communication, we present the results of investigation undertaken towards real time mapping of acoustic wave using coherent gradient sensing and Fourier fringe analysis method. The acoustic wave to be visualized is introduced in the sensing arm of double grating interferometer. Local strain variation, induced because of acoustic wavefront, results in local refractive index modulation. This results in light intensity modulation which allows visualization of strain field. Phase gradient information in the direction perpendicular to grating lines has been determined using Fourier fringe analysis technique. The experiment showed good visibility of the acoustic wave under observation.
