Abstract

A method for the determination of biochemical correlates of brain function is presented. After injection of tritiated water, split-brain monkeys were conditioned (using light and shock). The relative rates of protein synthesis in nuclei, synaptic endings, mitochondria and microsomes from each occipital and temporal cortex were determined. With one eye covered during conditioning, the relative rates of protein synthesis in corresponding brain regions remained unchanged.
