Abstract

Aim And Objective: To evaluate the visual outcome, intra and post-operative complications of posterior polar cataract following phacoemulsication. Department of ophthalmology, Alluri sitaramaraju academy Setting: of medical sciences, Malkapuram, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, india-5343005. A Prospective longitudinal study in which Phacoemulsication s Methods and materials: urgery was carried out in 40 posterior polar cataract patients under local anaesthesia by single surgeon with age ranging from 31 to 65years after taking informed and written consent, duration of study is 18 months all data were analyzed by using Microsoft e Statistical Analysis: xcel sheet using descriptive statistics Results: out of 40 cases, posterior capsular tear occured in 5 eyes (12.5%), capsular bag IOLs was achieved in 35cases sulcus-sulcus in 5 cases, post-operative visual outcomes at day 7 is 6/18(35%) and 6/24(22.5%) , at 1st month visual outcome is improved to 6/9(42.5%) and 6/12(30%) at 6th month visual acuity is 6/6 in 10%, 6/9 in 47.5%(19) and 6/12(32.5%). posterior polar cataracts Conclusion: can be safely removed,If the proper surgical approach is used. In the majority of instances, visual acuity dramatically improved, despite the fact that some patients with a unilateral cataract had already experienced amblyopia and proper patient pre op work-up and patient counselling is needed.
