Abstract

High requirements are compulsory for the quality control of heavy metals in Chinese patent medicines in order to achieve the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.In this contribution,a visual numerical analysis has been made to determine copper on the basis of the color change from blue to pinkish,which results from the redox reactivity between the azo dye Amido black 10B and Cu2+in aqueous solution.The color of each solution was expressed by Trichromatic Theory with the R,G,and B-values.Under optimum conditions,the R value gets increased proportionally to the concentration of Cu2+in the range of 8.33×10-8-1.33×10-6 mol/L,and thus can be successfully applied to the determination of Cu2+in three typical Chinese patent medicines.
