Abstract

An attempt is made tyo investigate whether and to what extent the shape of our visual field influences the interocular differences in the bisection of a line. Four conditions of the experimental situation were arranged: (1) left eye in the natural visual field, (2) right eye in the natural field, (3) left eye in artificial visual field, and (4) right eye in the same artificial field. In conditions (3) and (4) the normal monocular visula field was artificially limited by special eyeglasses with circular openings for the left and right eyes. Highly significant interocular differences in the natural visual field were found. These differences were reduced in the circular artificial field, more by use of the left eye and less in the case of the right eye. The former trend was significant but not the latter. The decrease of the interocular differences in the artificial visual field is due to its circular shape. However, the remaining significance of the interocular differences in the artificial field and great interindividual differences indicater the influence of some additional factors.
