Abstract

Early visual development is examined in the context of the functional goal of subsequent acquisition of reading skills. The suggested theoretical framework offers a rationale for the relationship between visual training and reading, indicates the existence of a critical period in visual development, points to the need for an inter-disciplinary approach to remedial reading, and is aimed at stimulating controversy as a basis for experimental investigations in the areas of visual development and visual training.
