Abstract

An analysis of a dataset of visual acuity from the perspective of a model of the contrast sensitivity of the visual system based on the tremor modulation signal is performed. Equations are obtained that establish a one-to-one relationship between the contrast sensitivity of the visual system and visual acuity. The results of the modeling suggest that it is the contrast sensitivity of the visual system that determines the minimum required size of the summation field based on the condition of the neural stimulus being greater than the threshold value for excitation. At the same time, the circle of confusion, which characterizes the quality of the optical system of the eye, is the only consistent indicator. The equations obtained in this work make it possible to compare and complement existing datasets for the contrast sensitivity of the visual system and visual acuity.
