Abstract

In 1895, in Asuncion, the Instituto Paraguayo was founded. Nucleated there, the Generacion del 900 or the Novecentistas formed a favorable space for the intellectual development of the country. In 1896 the Revista del Instituto Paraguayo began to be published, being a fundamental tool for the dissemination, debate and exchange of the production and interests of these intellectuals. This paper aims to analyze the “representations of the past” – category taken from Paul Ricouer (2004) and Fabio Wasserman (2008) – that can be found in this publication. Under a qualitative and quantitative analysis, I identify which is the most studied period of the Paraguayan past in the examined articles, as well as the theoretical-methodological postures behind them.
