Abstract

Researches on reading and education of Korean modern poetry as a foreign literature has been consisted of reading poetries regarding mainly multi-culture family. Since foreign readers have none of background knowledge of Korean poetries, there are difficulties for them to understand the literary work itself. In order to attain foreign readers’ understanding stage of Korea poetry, use of poetic text forms and contents is strongly needed to be considered.<BR> This article endeavors to devise means by which to vision of inter-textuality of poets and songs. It seeks the use of lyrics as concept of oral historicity poetry by Walter J. Ong. In the case of poetries are written as songs, they deliver original textual meanings and senses of Korean modern poetry more effectively to foreign readers. Furthermore, when it is accepted by readers as a song lyrics, it is transformed into a poetry added musical factor which gives in-depth understanding. In this research, previous cases of transformed songs from Korean modern poetry and applicability of them are reviewed.<BR> When we understand modern poetry through inter-textuality of poems and songs, not only cadence and melody of poetry are naturally appreciated but also Korean literary sensitivity and cultural aspect resulted from articulation way of men and women can be reviewed. For example, Jong-hwan Do’s poetry is accepted as a song. It describes metaphor and symbol of song lyrics and poetic text so that readers can find the hidden messages in the poetry actively. Therefore, selection of various inter-textuality of poems and songs is necessary for Korean modern poetry to be accepted as a foreign literature by foreign readers. The following work group is suggestion of the selection.<BR> First, it is desirable to review the usual subject as foreign literature and the poetry that have the Korean rhythm. Second, the narrative lyric that is a song of solving the problem in ordinary people’s life arouses bond of sympathy. Third, a poem like haiku that gives a spiritual echo for meditation and asceticism. The poetry of Go-un has been published in 10 languages of total 30volumes up to 2012, about 20volumes has been prepared to publish. The monotype Zen poetry such as 『Sunganuikkot』(An instant flower) was translated is showing the world people’s interest in him. Fourth, the poetry that contains the ecological issue is the field in which both the readers and intellectuals are interested. There are some representative poets for being interest in such problem already, who are Shin dong-yeop, Kim ji-ha, Go-un, Jeong hyeon-jong and Mun jeong-hui. Their poetic literature is a prime example which is creatively written. They are over the limit of local and have identity. Varying the subjects and total directional interest in poetry are needed than ever.
