Summary

Introduction

Sustainable development is defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Report, 1987). This concept is based on finding the balance and harmony between economic sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability (Elkington, 1997), key concepts identified by Dyllick and Hockerts (Gilbert, Schipper, 2010). The concern for the balance between economic growth and social welfare has become a political and managerial challenge of over the last 150 years (Dyllick, Hockerts, 2002)
