Abstract

Abstract The Goths formed two kingdoms after centuries of contact with the Roman Empire which included living along its frontiers and inside it. One of these, the Visigothic Kingdom, formed in Gaul and later Hispania from approximately 418 to 711. It became one of the longest‐lasting of the post‐Roman Germanic successor kingdoms. Its claims to fame included law codes, the conversion of some from Arianism to Orthodox or Catholic Christianity, and the literary, religious, and philosophical contributions of individuals such as Isidore of Seville.
