Abstract

In this current work, sol-gel spin coating process was employed to synthesis titanium dioxide, TiO 2 and Nb-doped TiO 2 nano-photocatalyst. TiO 2 and Nb-doped TiO 2 nano-photocatalyst were successfully synthesized on glass substrates in order to study on the effect of Nb dopant on the structural, surface morphology and visible light photocatalysis. Material analysis and photocatalytic activity of the TiO 2 and Nb-doped TiO 2 nano-photocatalyst was carried out by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive Ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). The XRD characterization revealed that the TiO 2 and Nb-doped TiO 2 become crystalline after annealing for 1 h at 500 °C. XRD confirms all the thin films exist in anatase phase. In addition, the surface morphology observed that all films were uniform. In photocatalytic activity test, the percentage degradation of 10 ppm of Methylene Blue (MB) solution by undoped and Nb-doped TiO 2 thin films after 3 h of irradiation of visible light were 36 and 76%, respectively.
