Abstract

Y-type zeolite encapsulating two distinct metal complexes has been synthesized. This zeolite contains Ru(bpy)3 (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and Mn(saloph) [saloph = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-o-phenylenediamine] as photoinducing and oxidative catalytic sites, respectively. The zeolite showed the quenching of the emission, resulting in the effective electron/energy transfer from the RuII center to the MnII center in it. The oxidation reaction of dimethyl sulfide with the zeolite has been accelerated by photoirradiation. This phenomenon indicates that the electron/energy transfer from Ru(bpy)3 units affects the oxidation reaction on Mn(saloph) units.
