Abstract

Visible light diffraction by a monolayer periodic array is investigated. The planar array with two-dimensional single crystalline structure was made by UV laser dye Bis-MSB doped polystyrene spheres with diameter of 2.6 μm. The diffraction patterns with 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 spots from visible light ( λ = 632.8 nm) show that the array has high diffractive efficiency and uniformity. The number of spots in the diffraction patterns were modulated by the size of the Gaussian beam based simply on Z-scanning. We analyze array diffraction with Gaussian optics and array theory.
