Abstract

This study deal with the registry of Brazilian institutional repositories (IR) in directories which specialize in open access. The research was divided into four stages, performed from the analysis of data on four open access directories: Diretorio Luso-Brasileiro de Repositorios e Revistas de Acesso Aberto (step 1); Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) (step 2); Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) (step 3); and Registry of Open Access Repository Material Archiving Policies (ROARMAP) (step 4). From the data analysis, it was found that among 33 institutions examined only five are listed in the four directories analyzed, which suggests that the Instituto Brasileiro de Informacao em Ciencia e Tecnologia (IBICT), as the agent responsible for the implementation of these IR, would ask to those institutions for insertion of their data, determining a legal term to do it, into both directories examined in this study and into other national and international open access directories, given the prominent role they play in organization and dissemination of open access information sources. Thus, the registry of Brazilian IR in international directories has advantages such as maximizing the visibility of funded institutions, authors and their researches, helping to expand and to strengthen the visibility of Brazilian researches around the world.
