Abstract

T problem considered in this paper is the slow flow of a viscous incompressible fluid over circular-arc wall projections or depressions when the flow far from the projection or cavity is one of uniform shear. Dean considered the twodimensional shearing motion of an incompressible viscous fluid past a particular type of wall projection, and in a recent paper, the author dealt with the shear flow past a cylinder lying on a wall. The problem statement and method of solution will be formulated for any circular-arc wall projection or cavity, but the details of the solution will only be carried out for the case of a semi-circular wall cavity.
