Abstract

The transient velocity and temperature fields have been calculated for the sudden start of Couette flow for fluids with Prandtl numbers of 1,100 and 1000 and with a viscosity which decreases exponentially with temperature. The velocity field established itself much more rapidly than the temperature field for the fluids with Prandtl numbers 100 and 1000. The development of the temperature field occurs only after the velocity field is already established for fluids with Prandtl numbers larger than 1000 when the Nahme number has values smaller than 80.
