Abstract

Two-dimensional laminar wakes of multiple cylinders aligned in a row normal to the stream were investigated by means of flow visualization techniques. The examined range of Reynolds number ( R g ) based on the breadth of a cylinder group was below 150. An isolated symmetrical vortex pair is formed at a distance downstream of the cylinder group. The distance between the rear end of the test body and the rear stagnation point of twin vortices increases with R g and decreases with the opening ratio and the Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter. For starting flows, the same type of vortex pair is formed in the wake, and its rear stagnation point moves downstream with time.
