Abstract

On the basis of the hole theory of liquids, a formula has been derived for the calculation of viscosity of simple liquids along isobars and on the saturation line. An expression is proposed for the enthalpy of activation, through which certain structural properties of liquids could be related: the coordination number, the effective diameter of the molecules, and the viscosity of the liquid. A theoretical calculation performed for liquified noble gases and the simple organic substances CH/sub 4/ and C/sub 6/H/sub 6/ is in good agreement with the experimental data over the entire region of the liquid state.
