Abstract

The authors have measured the density and viscosity K-Cs binary mixture and a Na-K-Cs ternary mixture from their crystallisation points (234 K and 199 K respectively) to 300 K. Extrapolations of the fluidity data indicate that the effective glass temperatures are only 39 K and 12 K below the minimum melting and eutectic temperatures for the binary and ternary mixtures, respectively. The extrapolated liquid densities at these temperatures agree well with predictions based on hard-sphere models.
