Abstract

In this study, the visco-elastic behavior of soft tissues is described in a unique formal framework enabling one to take into account both the short time memory effects (the stress dependence on the strain rate) and the long time memory effects (stress relaxation). Identification with experimental traction tests performed on human knee ligaments and tendons furnishes a complete visco-elastic description of these tissues.
