Abstract
Abstract Cucumber mosaic virus, potato virus Y, potato virus X, tobacco mosaic virus, and tomato spotted wilt virus were identified in Solatium laciniatum Ait. Cucumber mosaic virus induced the most severe symptoms, including mottle and narrowing of the leaf lamina. Infection of crops with cucumber mosaic virus varied from 0–70% (mean of seven crops 25%), and potato virus Y from 0–48% (mean six crops 27%). Potato virus X was detected in one (77% infection) of the four crops tested, and tobacco mosaic virus in one (17% infection) of the seven crops tested. Tomato spotted wilt virus was detected in one plant. Mixed infection with cucumber mosaic virus and potato virus Y was detected in one (28% infection) of the two crops tested, and cucumber mosaic virus and potato virus X in one (23% infection) of the three crops tested. Prior infection of S. laciniatum with potato virus Y did not prevent subsequent infection by cucumber mosaic virus.
