Abstract

ABSTRACTThe present article reflects some results from a complex investigations on the two freesia viruses economically important in order to cultivate the flower crop in Bulgaria. The bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) has been isolated only by mechanical inoculation of the test plants Vicia faba and Chenopodium quinoa. The presence of the freesia mosaic virus (FMV) has been identified by the variant of indirect ELISA. The results from the indirect ELISA testing and isolations on test plants of freesias from five cultivars grown in Bulgaria, prove that cv. Oberon, Alexander and Blouenm fountain are strongly infected by both FMV and BYMV. They cause symptoms and deterioration of the quality and yield. Cultivars Silvetia and Amasone contain viruses in low concentration without external manifestation of the symptoms and with more valuable quality and output.
