Abstract

This paper provides a brief historical background on the redefinitions of school leadership preparationprograms in a particular state (Illinois) in the United States. The paper chronicles the collaborations,challenges, and accomplishments of a professional organization, from the period of 2001 to 2010. Setin the context of concerns about school leadership preparation at the national level, the paper focusesprincipally on the work of the Illinois Council of Professors of Educational Administration (ICPEA) as itengaged with multiple stakeholders at university and state levels to strengthen school leadershippreparation.
