Abstract
This paper reports a virtual product development platform for rapidly developing a One-of-a-Kind product. The platform is built on the WWW (world wide web) environment, which can be accessed from anywhere inside or outside the company through intra-/inter-nets. The platform consists of a QFD (quality function deployment) based customer interface, Design/Manufacturing knowledge base, incremental process planning interface, computer aided design packages, and computer simulation packages. The paper also reports a STEP-based integrated product data model and a novel development method, viz. prototype based incremental product development method.
