Abstract

BackgroundThis study aimed to determine effects of a 360-head mounted display (360-HMD) simulation demonstrating poor behaviors on non-technical skills (NTS) in nurses. MethodsA prospective comparative study was conducted. The intervention group viewed a 360-HMD video displaying poor NTS and were introduced to Anaesthetists’ NTS (ANTS) and behaviorally anchored rating scales (BARS). The control group was only introduced to scales. Both groups then completed in-person simulations. ResultsNTS simulation performance in the 360-HMD group was lower than the control, (ANTS: -2.80, p = 0.0004; BARS: -5.80, p = 0.0005). ConclusionHMD modeling of poor behaviors predicted worse in-person performance in a simulated context.
