Abstract

In order to eliminate the voltage/current shock and speed loss existing in an electric locomotive when it operates in the neutral section, a virtual co-phase traction power supply system adopting the cascaded H-bridge multilevel converter is presented. In this new system, the power of an electric locomotive can be shared in the neutral section as well. In addition, a smooth transition between two adjacent power supply arms with disruptions is obtained in terms of voltage phase/amplitude when the locomotive operates in the neutral section as verified by the simulation results.
