Abstract

Oncocytes are epithelial cells with eosinophilic, granular cytoplasm due to a preponderance of mitochondria. An oncocytoma is a tumor composed predominantly of these cells. Oncocytomas are most commonly found in the kidney, however they have also been identified in the thyroid, salivary, and parathyroid gland, the lung, and the ovary.(1) An oncocytoma that arises from the adrenal gland is exceedingly rare. Most are incidentally found, benign, and nonfunctional. (2) Because of the extremely rare incidence of functioning adrenocortical oncocytoma, we report its exceptional manifestation of amenorrhea, infertility, and hirsutism in a young woman.
