Abstract

Two methods for refining the usual Donnan treatment of the Donnan membrane equilibrium are introduced and compared. One method is to apply the McMillan-Mayer solution theory while the second method involves modifying the Donnan treatment to include Debye-Hückel corrections to activity coefficients and osmotic pressure expressions.
