Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of virginity testing in the United States and its effects on the psychosocial wellbeing of young girls and women. The test has proven unreliable and might have adverse psychosocial effects on patients, but most medical societies do not provide guidance about virginity testing to healthcare providers.
