Abstract

The Violence of Gender, as one of the most damaging forms of disrespect for human rights, presented specifics. One is the conjugal violence, mode of domestic violence that occurs between spouses in the space of intimacy. In private nature, this type of violence is a powerful mechanism for social control. Considering the lack of studies on conjugal violence against women of medium and high social classes, in this work we tried to demonstrate the following assumptions: the violence suffered by women of higher purchasing power is directly related to the ideology of male supremacy, which ensures both the human control over women’s rights as well as the control over the assets of the spouses. The tolerance of women, as to violence by their partners does not mean consent; they in the permanent conviviality with this situation end up with this response and develop strategies for coping with violence. From these statements, we tried to decipher the complex web of marriage relationships, by analysis of semi-controlled interviews and, from this point on, to find explanations for the permanence of women/victims in violent conjugal relations and their forms of resistance
