Abstract

Abstract In an aqueous medium, sodium polyvinyl sulfonate)(PVS-Na) initiated radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of ferric chloride. The presence of water and Fe(III) ion was essential. The polymerization was concluded to take place in the aqueous phase. The effects of the amount of water, MMA, Fe(III) ion, and temperature on the polymerization were studied. The mechanism of the initiation is discussed.
