Abstract

Tamogitake (Pleurotus comucopiae) grows close together. It is crispy, flavorful, and has a pleasing color. This mushroom is cultivated in the Tohoku and Hokkaido regions in Japan from June to September. Broadleaved trees, especially of the genus Ulmus, can be used. When the spawn of Pleurotus comucopiae are inoculated between January to April, fruiting bodies appear about middle to late June, depending on climatic conditions. Optimum growth of Pleurotus comucopiae is obtained at 20–28°C so fruiting bodies develop during the fairly high temperature season. Maximum production is obtained during the rainy season of the year following inoculation. Young fruiting bodies are harvested before they become discolored.
