Abstract

Abstract The two photographs shown1 are perhaps the first ever taken from the top of the Great (or Cheops) Pyramid. They can be dated to 1856 when the German amateur photographer Wilhelm von Herford (1814–1866) became a Prussian consular officer in Cairo.1
